Dear readers,
Quick post today to say that Substack’s leadership didn’t answer our concerns at all re: platforming, monetizing and profiting from Nazis. (Here’s last week’s post with context if you missed it.) More on their non-response and my thoughts about it later but I’m letting you know that I’ve turned off paid subscriptions and I’ve made the call to move this whole operation elsewhere. You won’t be billed again if you’re a paid subscriber and I won’t be accepting new paid subscriptions until I’m on another platform.
Free subscriptions are still great! The more, the merrier. If you’ve been meaning to recommend Opalescent Ghost to a friend, go for it. I’ll be importing my subscriber list from Substack over to our new home. You won’t have to do anything to stay subscribed and receive my work in your inbox, whether you’re a free or a paid subscriber. Paid subscriptions won’t re-up automatically; that’ll be something you opt into if you want when we’re all moved in.
Now, this is all going to take a minute. I’m going to do my due diligence to make sure we land somewhere I feel good about for us and then I’ll devote some time to making the place cute and functional. (Funnily enough, I’m looking at a platform called Ghost.) I don’t expect to be up and running again until late January.
I’m adding a link in case you’d like to make a one-time donation to support this platform move in whatever amount feels good.
Thanks for understanding, thanks as always for reading, and I’m wishing you the happiest holidays possible. See you next year somewhere cooler!
Yours,
Tina
I’m glad you are not ghosting us by making sure we know where you are.
Oh dear, they're making such a mistake by not addressing this issue. Today, we were multiply spammed by a white supremacy group. It was alarming and to allow these groups to continue to monetize via intimidation seems in violation of basic civil liberties. Sigh.
